SORBOS straws: for a world without plastic
100% biodegradable products
Do you know how much plastic we consume each year in straws alone?
At Sorbos, we see ourselves as a company that is aware and involved in sustainable development of the planet and, therefore, we highly value the environment and biodegradable products. So, we don’t use any sort of plastics in manufacturing our straws. Tonnes of plastic build up each year, seriously endangering the planet’s flora and fauna and here at SORBOS we’ve had ENOUGH. So, we’ve created edible, biodegradable drinking straws that give the planet a break by being eco-friendly. So, we don’t use any sort of plastics in manufacturing our straws. The star characteristic of our straws is that they are biodegradable, and edible, which sets us apart from the rest and makes us proud, as it implies great corporate social responsibility and is our little bit towards helping care for and keep our planet clean.
For a clearer, more global understanding of this, we should explain that when we say biodegradable we are talking about products that decompose into other chemical components within a short period of time and can then be reabsorbed by the earth. Plus, biodegradable products aren’t so different from organic products, as they can be reused in most cases. On the other hand, non-biodegradable products (like glass and most plastics) are those that don’t decompose and pose a great risk to the planet. In short, biodegradable products have the great advantage of decomposing naturally and, as a result, are much less harmful to the environment. Finally, we’d like to share some figures about biodegradable products, and straws specifically. Over the past 13 years, more than 4 billion tonnes of plastic have been produced and, worst of all, production is increasing every day at breakneck speed. Plus, only 9% of this plastic gets recycled, which leaves us wondering: what happens to the rest? Furthermore, if we look at straws specifically, it is shocking that more than one billion straws are used every day in the world and more than 5 billion are used in Spain each year. None of these straws are biodegradable, so most end up in our seas and oceans, contaminating and seriously endangering the environment, flora and fauna. Knowing this, it is up to each of us to take responsibility for the environment and cut these figures as much as possible. One way of doing so is to stop using plastic straws and start making it a priority to find biodegradable products like SORBOS drinking straws..
